Tips to Avoid West Nile Virus

Posted on August 27, 2024

MOSQUITO WARNING

Precautions and actions you can take to protect yourselves:

  1. Try to avoid peak times of mosquito activity by staying indoors and avoiding peak hours for mosquitoes between dusk and dawn.
  2. Inform them that dusk/sunset is much earlier now.  Occurring at approximately 8 pm. (This will continue to occur earlier in the coming days.  In September, we lose the most amount of sunlight).
  3. Inform them sunrise is later now.  Occurring at approximately 7am.
  4. Take proper precautions if you are out at these times as the chances of being bitten are much higher.
  5. If you are/or need to be out between these times, take proper precautions.
    1. Wear long sleeves and pants (preferably light in color).
    2. Protect yourself and others by using a proper repellent, such as deet, Picaridin, oil of lemon eucalyptus, etc.  These provide true protection.  Here is a link to the CDC website about insect repellents you might choose:  https://www.cdc.gov/mosquitoes/prevention/index.html
